Most of us will gather around a Thanksgiving table laden with food and surrounded by family and friends. We’ll stuff ourselves silly, share laughs and take photos. Some of us may visit a soup kitchen, stop by a church or run in a morning Turkey trot. It will be an abundant day filled with gratitude.

But after the meal is over and the table is cleared here are two morsels to keep fresh forever: Thank more. Give more. Being thankful is not just for a special occasion; it’s a way of life. The simple words “Thank you” can nourish the spirit for someone who feels under appreciated, over worked or invisible until something happens and you take notice and have a need. Gratitude is about not taking things for granted.

A life focused on giving more of your time, attention and wisdom to help others is a key ingredient in the recipe for happiness for many. Yet, too many people focus on getting more over giving more to find their route to contentment, and they often come up short in the process.

Over the holidays there are many people who work to help make our lives better who deserve more thanks than they probably receive starting with hospital workers. Recently The New York Times published a thank you letter written by Peter Demarco whose wife, Laura, died from an asthma attack. It was titled, “A letter to the doctors and nurses who cared for my wife.” Here is the link.  Even as he worked through his deep grief, Peter found the time to give thanks.

The practice of being a thankful and giving person every day feeds our souls as much as the food we eat nourishes our bodies. You can never over indulge on thank yous, and being a giving person makes you lighter in spirit. So be generous and abundant with both on a daily basis.

And thank you for reading this and for your comments and support.
Stay fearless and fabulous and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
